The former infectious disease wards, now called isolation wards, of the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University began operating at 8 a.m. on June 8.
These wards were initially prepared in February. At the peak of the pandemic and the greatest shortage of personnel, they were successfully completed despite difficulties including site selection, drawing design, construction personnel and materials use.
The hospital's director, Xu Anding, and its other leaders have inspected the project many times. After months of joint efforts, the inpatient building was finally completed on June 6. With two floors and a usable area of 1,900 square meters, it has 10 negative pressure isolation wards equipped with 28 beds, private bathrooms and air conditioning. These wards have clear functional partitions and reasonable distribution of space. During the coronavirus outbreak, they can be used as quarantine facilities to treat suspected patients, while in normal times they can receive patients with related infectious diseases.

The original infection wards were demolished 12 years ago because of the construction of the new hospital building.
