JNU's College of Science and Engineering celebrated its 90th anniversary on Nov. 9. More than 600 alumni, 500 teachers and students, and 1,200 leaders and guests from sister schools attended.

JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng extended warm congratulations, saying he fully recognized the college's outstanding achievements in talent-training, team-building, scientific research innovations, cultural heritage, social services and international education. With the 90th anniversary as a new starting point, he said he hoped the college would cultivate talents with scientific spirit and innovative ideas; strive for more scientific research projects and achievements; accelerate the industrial transformation of achievements, and achieve greater social benefits.

Chen Zhenqiang, dean of the college, chronicled the college’s history and achievements from the initial stage to its revitalization, as well as its leaping development and remarkable achievements in recent years.
On behalf of the college’s Alumni Association and the large number of alumni in China and abroad, Wu Wenjie, president of the association, expressed sincere pride in the college’s achievements, his feelings toward his alma mater and his gratitude to teachers.
At a donation ceremony for the college’s education development fund, Wu Wenjie and Lai Hongchang, alumni of the physics department of 1983 and 1993 classes, respectively, donated 1 million Yuan each. Li Qiyuan, a 1997 graduate of the physics department, donated 300,000 Yuan. Guangzhou Anbao Electronics Co. Ltd. and Guangzhou Jiuan Functional Technology Co. Ltd. donated 300,000 Yuan and 100,000 Yuan, respectively. The 1981 class in physics donated 200,000 Yuan. Chen Zeping, a 1984 graduate of the physics department, donated 120, 000 Yuan. Xiao Wei, a 1979 physics graduate, donated 100,000 Yuan. Yang Bingkun, a 1986 graduate in food science and engineering, donated 60,000 Yuan. The fund will to support the anniversary celebration, as well as the development of teaching and scientific research, talent-training and other undertakings.

JNU President Song Xianzhong issued commemorative cards to an “outstanding contribution group,” former President Hu Jun to “outstanding contribution alumni,” Vice President Liu Jiesheng to teachers with 30 years’ service in the college, and Deputy Secretary Xia Quan and Vice President Zhang Hong to “four good teachers.”

Originally called the College of Science, the College of Science and Engineering is one of the earliest colleges established in JNU’s 113-year history. It has integrated and incubated the College of Life Science and Technology, the College of Information Science and Technology, the College of Environment, the College of Chemistry and Materials, the School of Mechanical and Architectural Engineering, and the College of Advanced Erosion Resistance and Functional Materials.
To celebrate its 90th year, the college has published a book titled History of the College of Science and Engineering Jinan University (1929-2019), summarizing the college’s history and showing its changes, glory and dream.
