A delegation from Guangdong province, part of the youth ambassadors of Sai Kung District, Hong Kong, visited Jinan University on Aug. 27. JNU President Song Xianzhong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China; Zhuang Hanwen, secretary general of the Overseas Friendship Association; Dong Qiyuan, director of Hong Kong Office, and Huang Shaotang, deputy secretary general of the Overseas Friendship Association, welcomed the delegation of 32 students from universities and secondary schools in Hong Kong. Along with seven Hong Kong students and seven from the Chinese mainland, the delegation had an informal discussion with JNU.
Song described JNU’s operating history, basic information and the unique role JNU has played in the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, who also welcomed members of the delegation to visit JNU and said that he hoped young people in Hong Kong could have the chance to further their studies at JNU.

Zhuang’s welcome speech focused on the situation of Hong Kong students at JNU and the development of Hong Kong alumni after graduation. Zhou Darong, head of the delegation, briefly introduced participants to its composition, the general situation of Sai Kung District, and the purpose and significance of the trip. He said he expected more exchanges and cooperation between JNU and the district. At the symposium, representatives of Hong Kong students at JNU, mainland students, and Hong Kong youths in the delegation exchanged information about their study and life at JNU.
After the symposium, the delegation also visited the Archive of World Overseas Chinese Studies in the library and experienced a JNU classroom
JNU students win first prize in electronics design contest

Two teams from JNU’s School of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering, won first and second prizes in the “TI Cup” -- the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest 2019 in Guangzhou on Aug 28.
About 15,000 teams from 1,100 colleges and universities in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across China took part, but only 296 of them – 2 percent -- won first prizes; 847, or 6%, won second prizes.
The contest is one of the university academic competitions co-sponsored by Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. As a public scientific and technological activity oriented toward college students, it promotes the course system and content revolutions in subjects including information and electronics.
Four JNU teams, instructed by Dr. Luo Yong, included 12 contestants, all 2016 and 2017 students majoring in the internet of things and electronic information science and technology in the School of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering.
After a string of victories from the preliminary to the comprehensive evaluation, Jiang Qingwei, Yang Chongyi and Chen Houhua won the National First Award as one of five undergraduate teams representing Guangdong in the national finals. Chen Baojun, Feng Qingsheng and Mai Huaze performed well in the preliminary and were selected into the comprehensive evaluation with high scores, winning the national second prize.
In the Guangdong preliminary round, a team consisting of Wu Zhifeng, Huang YuXiang and Luo Quan, won third prize; and He Shaoke, Liu Yirong and Zeng Huiling, won the Excellence Award.
