The appointment of Prof. Chris Good, deputy head of the University of Birmingham's School of Mathematics, as the British dean of the Jinan University-University of Birmingham Joint Institute (JNU-UOB) was held on JNU's main campus on June 11. Attending were Zhang Hong, JNU vice president and director of the institute's Joint Management Committee; , Wang Chunchao, dean of JNU-UOB; Li Qiong, secretary of JNU-UOB; and Zheng Yingyi, director of its China Office.
Zhang reviewed JNU-UOB's rapid progress and achievements in two years, adding that students' performance in the school's academic and extracurricular activities was outstanding and award-winning. Zhang said he believed Good would lead the school on a new journey together with colleagues in JNU-UOB.

Good said that the joint institute was highly valued by UOB and a significant step in UOB's globalization strategy. As recruitment is progressing smoothly, more high-quality teachers will be joining JNU-UOB. In addition, a group of the institute’s students from JNU will attend summer school at UOB in the U.K., and student exchange programs will be expanded. Good expressed his firm belief in JNU-UOB's future development.
At the meeting, Zhang issued Good a letter of appointment, and the two sides exchanged souvenirs.

After the ceremony, the first meeting of the Teaching and Quality Committee was held. Participants discussed in depth the development of teaching plans, management of exams, supervision of teaching quality, and training in English language ability. Composed of the teaching administrators of Jinan University and Birmingham University, the committee is responsible for supervising the college’s teaching quality; creating teaching strategies; reviewing teaching plans and revising relevant systems; setting admission standards and assisting in recruiting students; formulating and implementing student support policies to promote academic study and career developments; listening to the reports of the Staff Student Committee, and providing effective advice to the Joint Management Committee.
