Prof. Meng Hui's group in the College of Science and Engineering has published a research paper titled Electron density modulation of metallic MoO2 by Ni doping for excellent hydrogen evolution and oxidation activities in acid in the top-level energy journal ACS Energy Letter (Impact Factor: 16.33). Zeng Hongbin, an undergraduate in the 2016 class majoring in materials physics, and Chen Shiqi, a postgraduate in the 2017 class, are the co-first authors. Dr. Jin Yanshuo directs this study and serves as the corresponding author. Meng and Associate Researcher Chen Xiaobo are the co-corresponding authors. 

Teachers in the research group adjust their teaching methods for postgraduates and undergraduates in accordance with their aptitudes and encourage them to carry out original research in electrochemical energy. Under Jin's training, two undergraduates have published papers in top-level journals as first author, and several undergraduates having made good progress. Zeng joined Meng's group through the Physics Department's Siyuan Talent Training Plan and has qualified to study for a doctorate in Academician Sun Shigang's research group at Xiamen University.

The college has encouraged students to participate actively in scientific research of innovation and supported them in science and technology competitions. A number of undergraduates have published papers in the first-class journals included in Journal Citation Reports.
