The JNU Youth League Committee and the Youth Volunteers Association and Property Management Center of the General Logistics Management Office carried out learning-from-Lei Feng volunteer work throughout the school on March 5, on the occasion of the 56th Lei Feng Memorial Day and the 20th China Youth Volunteer Service Day. With the theme Labor is glorious, hundreds of teachers and students from five campuses participated.
More than 80 volunteers on the main campus, working with school sanitation workers, cleaned up leaves from the lawns on both sides of the library square. More than 40 volunteers on Panyu Campus cleared weeds next to the stadium.
At the same time, all JNU campuses held the volunteer work to learn from Lei Feng, an altruistic Chinese soldier who spent most of his time helping others, presenting a fresh outlook. Volunteers on Zhuhai campus cleaned the campus and called on teachers and students to care for it by turning off the lights, cleaning blackboards for teachers and keeping the campus clean. Volunteers at Shenzhen Tourism College removed garbage for the dormitory staff and organized activities to sort garbage and collect recyclables. Teachers and students in the College of Chinese Language and Culture planned an activity to gather and dispose of out-of-date advertisements on campus.
JNU hopes this volunteer event, is a significant part of a series of activities in JNU’s month of learning from Lei Feng, during which all kinds of volunteer work will be held as a way of learning from Lei Feng. It will be a start for teachers and students to join in long-term volunteer work, perform tasks no matter how small, and create a better life through their labor and dedication.
