Since the outbreak of the coronavirus began, Jinan University has consecutively released 10 management plans, including Jinan University Covid-19 Prevention and Control Emergency Plan. JNU has reinforced restrictions on visitors and vehicles on all its campuses under strict controls. Outsiders are not allowed to enter the campus without legitimate reasons. All faculty members and students, on foot or by car, should receive identity checks and have their temperatures taken before entering the university, with the president being no exception.
We have made the policy that students should return to school in stages and set up quarantine areas on all five campuses, said President Song Xianzhong.
Song said the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University had sent 89 medical workers to fight the disease in Hubei in three groups. The first and second medical teams, totaling 24 members, returned to Guangzhou on March 22. The first group of nine had thrown themselves into the battle at Wuhan Hankou Hospital for more than 50 days since Lunar New Year's Eve on Jan. 24.
Song said JNU alumni associations and Jinan University Education Foundation had collected money and epidemic prevention supplies totaling 3 million yuan from 13,500 JNUers. In addition, overseas Chinese donated 4 million yuan to JNU's fight against Covid-19 through the Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation of China.
JNU has no shortage of board members, along with their companies, who shoulder responsibilities to demonstrate their commitment to society. The board members and their enterprises have donated over 650 million yuan and much-needed medical supplies.
Jinan University commenced online courses to ensure that 40,000 students could take classes as scheduled. During spring semester, statistics show, over 2,000 teachers offered 2,574 online courses to over 225,000 students.
JNU proactively opened a series of quality online resources to the public. Among them, the school provided free access to 60 MOOCs and 9 virtual experiment teaching programs.
