Two JNU Press projects -- the Hakka Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Protection Project, and the first stage of the Unearthed Warring States Period Documents' Annotation and Translation Project -- have been funded by the National Publication Foundation, its management committee announced on Feb. 26.

The Hakka Project is listed among the national major publications of the 13th Five-Year Plan. It consists of five books: Guangdong Han Music, Guangdong Han Opera, Hakka Folk Song, Hakka Puppetry and Hakka Intangible Cultural Heritage Heir Collecting and reviewing precious literature, this project introduces the form, performance and singing skills of Han music, Han opera and Hakka folk song. It probes the legacy and preservation of Hakka intangible cultural heritage by sharing the heirs' experiences. It also presents these heritages' cultural value and social implications in an overall and systematical way.

The Annotation and Translation Project transcribes, punctuates, annotates and translates into modern Chinese all documents unearthed from the Warring States Period that have been published. The project aims to help readers better understand the period's politics, economy, culture, history, geography, technology, medicine and social customs. It comprises six works of annotation and translation: Qin Bamboo Slips in Shuihudi, Yunmeng County; Qin Bamboo Slips in Yuelu Academy; Chu Bamboo Slips in Geling, Xincai County; Slips of Qin Tomb in Longgang, Yunmeng County; Qin Bamboo Slips in Zhoujiatai, and Qin Bamboo Slips in Fangmatan, Tianshui City.

The National Publication Foundation is the third national foundation, established after the National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation. Its purpose is to encourage and support high-quality public welfare publishing projects. It is funding 633 projects nationwide in 2020.
