JNU delegation visits European partners

To expand the circle of international partners and promote Chinese culture in Europe, Xia Quan, deputy secretary of JNU's Party Committee, led a delegation to Denmark, Germany and Belgium from Dec. 5 to 14.

On Dec. 6, the delegation visited Aarhus University, Denmark, where Vice President Berit Eika gave a warm welcome. Then leaders from both universities spoke highly of their intensive past cooperation in international politics and life science and reached consensus to upgrade their former cooperation memorandum into cooperation agreement.

On Dec. 7, the delegation hosted a Chinese Culture Day at the Denmark-China Cultural Exchange Center in Copenhagen, where Cheng Jingwu, director of JNU's Department of Social Sciences, and Ju Hailong, vice president of the School of International Relations, introduced the profound philosophy of Chinese tea culture and tai chi through presentations for locals and overseas Chinese.

The delegation visited Heidelberg University's Institute of Sinology on Dec. 9 to discussd exchanges of teachers and students of Chinese studies and world history with its director.

In Frankfurt it visited the Sino-German Industrial Park in Frankfurt, the German-Chinese Cultural Promotion Association and the Consulate General of China on Dec. 9 and 10. Accompanied by Chen Ping, dean of JNU’s Cultural Heritage and Creative Industry Research Institute, who lives in Germany, the delegation discussed the spread of Chinese culture in Europe with overseas Chinese.

On Dec. 11, the delegation went to the Chinese School of Ghent in Belgium and had a sit-down conversation with local Chinese teachers and Prof. Bart Dessein, a famous Sinologist at Ghent University.

The next day, it visited Vrije Universiteit Brussel and its Confucius Institute. Prof.  VUB Vice President Romain Meeusen received the delegation and expressed great interest in joint training of graduates in the “3+2” and “1+1” modes to carry out student exchange and scientific research cooperation among scholars. Both sides expressed sincere willingness to sign the cooperation agreement between the two universities.
