The International Symposium on Aquatic Ecological Degradation and Ecological Remediation, co-sponsored by JNU and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, was held at JNU's academic activity center from Nov. 11 to 15. Participating were about 300 representatives from universities, research institutes and enterprises in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Italy, Ireland, South Korea and China.
With the theme of Ecological Water Purification Makes It Clear and Beautiful and a focus on the theory and technological frontier of water ecological restoration, they exchanged opinions on important issues such as the degradation of aquatic ecosystems; aquatic organisms' response to their ecological environment; progress in water ecological engineering and remediation technology; water ecological management and strategy; and aquatic organisms' use of resources. The symposium provided a platform for further cooperation among the Chinese mainland, countries along the Belt and Road, and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions.
The symposium report covered the degradation and evolution of wetlands, rivers, lakes, reservoirs and marine ecosystems, as well as the forefront of remediation technology. It discussed the monitoring of water pollution; the response of the aquatic microbial community and food chain to the degradation; and the assessment methods and model application of aquatic ecosystem. The ecological restoration of water pollution control and the recycling technology of aquatic organisms were discussed in depth, and the front-line research in related fields was systematically summarized. The symposium provided the latest research results and cases for researchers and peers, setting up a platform for them to share the theory and technology of aquatic ecosystem restoration.
