Wu Zhongshu and Cai Chuping, students in JNU's School of Journalism and Communication, won first prize in the finals of the 16th Challenge Cup National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition. Their project was titled Investigation and Research on Taiwan Students' Current National Identity Awareness and Its Influencing Factors: Taking the Students at Taipei University as an Example.
Through questionnaires and in-depth interviews, this cross-strait research recorded the voice of Taiwan youth on national identity issues and makes targeted suggestions to improve their awareness of national identity by exploring the deep-seated reasons behind that voice. Wu and Cai also hope to contribute to the peaceful reunification of the Taiwan and mainland China.

Students will play a vital role in the development of cross-strait relations in the future, Wu said. If we manage to find out the factors behind the weakening national identity of Taiwan's youth from various aspects to evoke their 'national identity,' it will undoubtedly contribute to the peaceful reunification of the Chinese mainland and the Taiwanese people.
Wu and Cai said they chose their method to break through the limitations of the existing literature that underestimates the actual investigation and emphasizes theoretical analysis.
