Led by Vice President Ye Wencai, a JNU delegation visited several medical universities in Spain and Portugal from Nov. 7 to 14 to discuss scientific research cooperation and talent cultivation in pharmacy, medicine and other fields.

In Portugal, the delegation visited Minho University's Institute of Life and Health Sciences and had in-depth discussions on scientific research cooperation, reaching a preliminary agreement. As the top medical research institute in Portugal, it has world-class research teams, facilities and scientific research.

At the University of Lisbon, the delegation and Prof. Bruno Silva-Santos of the Institute of Molecular Medicine summarized the universities' current scientific research cooperation. They agreed to cooperate further in pharmaceutical chemistry and to set up an international scientific research cooperation platform. The delegation also reached an agreement on cooperation with the university's medical college in cultivating doctors and exchanging visits of scientific researchers.

JNU and the Institute of Molecular Medicine jointly applied to the China Scholarship Council for the International Cooperation Cultivation Program for Innovative Talents. The aim is to fully fund JNU doctoral students in related fields to study in Lisbon and better cultivate innovative and interdisciplinary talents who meet the requirements of international and contemporary development.

In Spain, the delegation visited University of Barcelona, Spain's top university, returning that university's visit to JNU in March. The two universities agreed to cooperate in biomedicine, including research and development of innovative drugs and technology transfer. The delegation was also briefed on the pharmacy school's latest scientific research achievements in drug extraction from fungus and other aspects, and the two sides exchanged views on potential scientific research cooperation. The universities planned to sign relevant cooperation agreements soon.
