More than 700 alumni from all over the world celebrated the 113th anniversary of Jinan University, the leading university for overseas Chinese, and discussed How to Integrate Alumni Work into National Strategy in Shenzhen on Nov. 16.
JNU has cultivated more than 300,000 talents of all kinds from more than 170 countries on five continents, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It is said that wherever there is seawater, there is a JNU student. In this context, JNU's 113th-anniversary activities and the fourth Global Alumni Association Presidents’ Meeting were held in Guangzhou and Shenzhen on Nov. 16 and 17.

Activities included the Greater Bay Area Forum, an exhibition on scientific research achievements and an alumni work exchange meeting. Attendees recognized that regular exchanges of alumni work via the Global Alumni Association Presidents’ Meeting played a great and unique role in gathering the hearts and minds of overseas Chinese, helping national reunification and spreading the voice of China.
It is said that with over 50,000 alumni, JNU has become the mainstay in Shenzhen's construction.
(Prof. Tang Jie)
Tang Jie, former deputy mayor of Shenzhen City and a professor in the School of Economics and Management of Harbin Institute of Technology's Shenzhen campus, said Hong Kong and Shenzhen were characterized by a developed market system, and the number of land enterprises per capita ranked among the top in the country. As a global industrial technology innovation center, he said, Shenzhen, should comprehensively deepen cooperation with Hong Kong and improve capabilities and levels of scientific and industrial innovation.
(Dr. Tang Dajie)
Based on the fact that the GDP growth rate of the Greater Bay Area exceeded the overall economy, Dr. Tang Dajie, former president of Shenzhen HTI Ltd. and chairman of TRIWISE Ltd., said the diversity of the Greater Bay Area economic system had brought abundant opportunities for industrial investment. He emphasized that the biopharmaceutical industry, in which the GBA was still weak, faced more significant development opportunities and had more development space, since the total market value of China’s A-Share in this sector was less than that of an American company.
(Prof. Hu Jun)
The Greater Bay Area will become not only a new growth pole for China's economic development, but also a new portal to the world after the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, said Prof. Hu Jun, former president of JNU and dean of its Greater Bay Area and Belt and Road Research Institute. The new portal will play a major leading role in the Belt and Road initiative, and Shenzhen will be the most valuable city in China for investment.
