JNU's eighth board of directors held its second meeting in Guangzhou on Nov. 15.

In attendance were Board Chairman Wan Gang; Yu Yousheng, viceminister of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of Chna's Central Committee; and Tan Weizhong, deputy governor of People's Government of Guangdong. Ma Youheng, vice chairman of the board, presided.

In the opening speech, Lan Fok Chun-wan, vice chairman of JNU's board, a representative of the National People's Congress and chief executive officer of Fok Ying Tung Group, said the board had a long history. Since its establishment, it has gathered social leaders, overseas Chinese leaders and business elite who love Hong Kong, Macao and their hometowns; support higher education for overseas Chinese; offer wisdom and suggestions for JNU's strategic development; and build a bridge for cooperation and exchange between JNU and various circles in China and abroad.
JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng said that that over JNU's 113-year history, the board has made indelible contributions to the construction and development of the university, and to the higher education of overseas Chinese in China.
Wan Gang pointed out that all previous JNU boards had played a pivotal role in uniting and leading the directors in China and abroad to facilitate the university's development. He said he hoped all directors could carry forward the noble style passed down from their forerunners in promoting patriotism and education to support JNU's development, assist overseas Chinese in their higher education, also, offer wisdom for the construction and development of JNU as well as create new brilliance.
