Dr. Tan Chin Ping, a visiting professor in JNU's College of Science and Engineering, academician of the Malaysian Academy of Sciences and professor at the University Putra Malaysia, won the award for excellence in research and innovation in Malaysia's Research Star Awards 2019 on Nov. 6.

Malaysia's Research Star Awards 2019, organized by Clarivate Analytics and the Malaysian Ministry of Education, are given to the country's most promising and influential researchers. Tan's award for research and innovation excellence recognizes the outstanding contributions of researchers or universities in academic innovation.

This year, eight researchers and two universities across Malaysia received Research Star Awards. One professor received the Hot Review Paper, and seven researchers and two universities received awards for research and innovation. The research field covers a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, information and communication technology, clinical and health sciences, natural sciences and social sciences.

Elected an academician of Academy of Sciences Malaysia in 2019, Tan collaborates with JNU's College of Science and Engineering, where he became a visiting professor in 2017, on many scientific research and talent projects. In response to the Belt and Road Initiative, JNU has signed an interschool strategic cooperation agreement with University Putra Malaysia and set up the International Joint Laboratory on Plant Oil Processing and Safety, whose Malaysian leader is Tan and Chinese leader is Wang Yong, vice president of the College of Science and Engineering.
