Zhang Yuantian, an overseas Chinese in Singapore and an alumnus of JNU's School of International Studies, has donated 10 million Yuan to set up the JNU- Zhang Yuantian Chinese Culture Communication Competition to support a series of activities. It will also carry out education work for overseas Chinese students around the world, rewarding those with traditional Chinese virtues, great aspirations, outstanding achievements, correct outlook on life, love of Chinese culture and willingness to contribute to China.

The first series of activities started on Nov. 10 with the Chinese Artistic and Cultural Talent Competition, the Chinese Culture Communication Messenger of the Year, the Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture Association and the Excellent Project Cultivation Plan. Each event has received a positive response from JNU students in China and abroad, with 1,056 people and 246 teams to date signed up to participate.

The preliminary of Chinese Artistic and Cultural Talent Competition was held on Panyu campus on Nov. 10. The contestants in the Chinese Culture Communication Messenger of the Year, the Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture Association and the Excellent Project Cultivation Plan will also show their talents in competition. Outstanding teams and individuals will be recognized at the awards ceremony in mid-December. The next session of the competition will be open to overseas Chinese students in China and abroad.

Zhang, a Ph.D. candidate in JNU's School of International Studies and currently chairman of Hoarded Fortune Group in Singapore, has been engaged in academic research, business operation and investment for more than 20 years. He was awarded the titles of Advanced Individual among Directors of the New Overseas Chinese Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance in 2017 and Advanced Individual of the National Returned Overseas Chinese and the Family Members of Overseas Chinese in 2018.
