The 2019 Guangdong Cultural Tour and High-Level Workshop for Overseas Chinese Teachers, sponsored by the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Guangdong People’s Government and organized by JNU’s College of Chinese Language and Culture, was held from Sept. 23 to 29. The nearly 30 participants included heads of Chinese educational institutions, Chinese school board members, and principals from 16 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Central and South America.
The workshop included targeted lectures and a symposium on the special work of expatriate teachers. Participants visited the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Museum, Rong Hong Memorial Hall and Tang Guoan Memorial Hall. In the evening they watched performances of new songs and dances on Linghai New Ode to the Motherland and shared educational experiences with Zhuhai No. 9 Middle School and Rong Hong School.

JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng spoke on Instilling Four Confidences in the Path, Theory, System and Culture of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and Sharing the Chinese Dream Together. He analyzed the rich connotation of Four Confidences from three aspects: source, power and dream of confidence. Overseas Chinese have great potential to realize the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, he said.

Through the workshop, the college has also strengthened exchanges with Chinese education institutions in many countries and regions of Central and South America. College leaders have conducted discussions on overseas Chinese education cooperation with the Dominican Association of Overseas Chinese, the Dutch Association of Overseas Chinese in Curacao, and principals and directors of the Chinese school in the Chung Wah Association of Venezuela. At the workshop, the guests described current conditions and difficulties in Chinese education. The leaders said that the college would give full play to its advantages and assist in teacher training, textbook compilation and organizing activities for Chinese youth.

At the closing ceremony, participants said the workshop was rewarding. During the workshop, I had a chance to meet with other members,said Zhang Zhongmin, president of Aihua Chinese School in Spain,Both experts and scholars gave theoretical guidance, and we visited the excellent base of Chinese education in Zhuhai. We also shared our experiences of overseas Chinese education and benefited a lot from them.”
