Twelve students from JNU's School of Translation Studies were on the winners' list of the 31st Han Suyin Youth Translation Award competition, published on Sept. 25. From the 2016 class, Kuang Boyi won first prize in Chinese-to-English; Lu Junyu and Du Ning took second prizes in English-to-Chinese translation. Liang Jingxuan of the 2017 class and Chen Xinyan of the 2018 class won third prizes in English-to-Chinese translation. Zhou Guodong and six other students the Excellence Award. The total ranked first among universities and colleges in China.
In recent years, guided by the education principle of Learning through Research and Competition, the School of Translation Studies has paid great attention to teaching quality and talent-training, and encouraged students to participate in various translation competitions at home and abroad to enhance their professional skills. A monograph on Learning through Research and Competition by Dean Zhao Youbin, published in Foreign Languages in China, elaborated on the school's outstanding achievements in discipline construction under the guidance of this principle. In addition, Zhao, invited by World Interpreter and Translator Training Association, shared his experience in undergraduate education, talent cultivation and research development at the International Conference on Translation Education at Shandong University on Sept. 21, emphasizing the practice-and-work-oriented teaching model.

To date, 62 JNU students have won Han Suyin Youth Translation Awards, and the number of JNU's winners in this year again topped the national universities after similar wins in 2013, 2016 and 2017.
