Jinan Journal and JNU Journal were honored at a journal publishing symposium held by the China Periodicals Association (CPA) in Beijing on Aug. 20 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and publicize the CPA's achievements as it grows with the country.

The two JNU journals, edited and published by the JNU Editorial Department, were awarded the honorary title Commemorating the 70 Years of the Founding of the Journal and were selected for the 26th Beijing International Book Fair's Excellent Journals Exhibits on Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China.”

The honorary title was awarded to 102 journals, of which 14 have been published for more than 100 years, 12 for 90 to 100 years, 28 for 80 to 90 years and 48 for 70 to 80 years.

Jinan Journal was founded in February 1936 by He Bingsong, a famous historian who was JNU’s third president. Jinan Journal published only two volumes in 1936, totaling four issues, and covering literature and science. JNU reopened in Guangzhou in 1978, and a year later, Jinan Journal officially resumed publication under the name of Journal of Jinan University.

It has always combined theory with practice and academic development with the times, keeping pace with social trends, theoretical frontiers and academic hotspots. One of the earlier university journals, it has been published for 83 years.

Jinan Journal (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition) is a comprehensive journal of philosophy and social sciences. It includes research on Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese literature; overseas Chinese studies; research columns on pre-Qin philosophers; renewing pre-Qin philosophers' thoughts, and anti-Japanese war. This journal is a core journal of the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index, National Chinese and China's Humanities and Social Sciences, and a quality journal of higher institutions across the country. At the same time, it is a funded journal for the construction of excellent journals for philosophy and social sciences in Guangdong universities, and a special funded journal of the theoretical Cantonese military of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee's Publicity Department.

Journal of Jinan University (Natural Science and Medicine Edition) is a comprehensive academic journal of life sciences and medicine, featuring columns on medicine, biology, chemistry, environmental science and pharmacy. It is a core journal of Peking University and a source for Chinese Science Citation Database and Chinese Science and Technology Paper Citation Data. It has won many honors, including Excellent Sci-Tech Journal of Chinese Universities, Excellent Online Journal of Chinese Sci-Tech Papers and Excellent Website of Chinese University Sci-Tech Journals.
