JNU held its eighth School Staff Congress and the fifth session of the 12th General Assembly of Trade Union Members in the Shipai campus auditorium on July 6 and 7. More than 300 people attended, including JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng, President Song Xianzhong, official representatives, specially invited representatives and non-voting representatives.

Representatives heard the Principal's Work Report, the School Union Work Report, a briefing on rain sewage diversion engineering on Shipai campus, a briefing on residential property management on Shipai campus, and a draft of the Interim Measures on the Management of Public Housing of JNU. They also examined and discussed the Report on Work of the Conference and the Review Report on School Union Funding.

Lin delivered the opening speech on behalf of the JNU party committee, clarifying the conference's guiding ideology and main tasks, and affirming its work and achievements for the university and faculty in 2018. Song gave the Principal's Work Report, which reviewed the school's achievements and breakthroughs in the last year. He pointed out that in the future, JNU should focus on the construction of double-first-class universities and high-level universities while making every effort to promote the construction of pharmaceutical disciplines to ensure that they will be on the double first-class discipline construction list in 2020. JNU should also strive to achieve the level of pharmacology and toxicology close to the world's top one-thousandth of Essential Science Indicators (ESI), he said.

All representatives discussed and deliberated the above reports and documents, and adopted the Interim Measures on the Management of Public Housing of JNU. They also commended advanced groups and individuals in 2018 in labor union work, as well as the outstanding proposals and advanced units in handling proposals in 2018.
