Mai Wenjie and his team from the College of Science and Engineering's Department of Physics has published a thesis titled Theoretical Calculation Guided Electrocatalysts Design: Nitrogen Saturated Porous Mo2C Nanostructures for Hydrogen Production in Applied Catalysis B-Environmental, a prestigious international journal in JCR Q1, with an impact factor of 11.698. Wang Zilong, a lecturer in the department, and Luo Heng, an undergraduate in the material physics class of 2016, are co-first authors, and Mai and Li Xibo are co-corresponding authors.

This research provides theoretical as well as experimental guidance for the development of transition metal carbide electrocatalysts. It also boosts the development of hydrogen energy-related and new energy industries.
Backed by Zhu Zonglong, an associate professor at City University of Hong Kong, this research represents a major academic collaboration in the context of the framework agreement on the Greater Bay Area.
Since teaming up at JNU in September 2016 as introduced specialists, Wang and Li , have published seven papers in JCR Q1 and first-class journals, five with impact factors greater than 10. As a member of JNU's Siyuan Talent Fostering Plan initiated by Tsinghua University, Luo has participated in the research team after publishing a research paper in the international journal Catalysts as a co-author (Catalysts 2019, 9, 459; doi:10.3390/catal9050459) and winning school- and provincial-level prizes. Luo also received project approval from the special fund for scientific and technological innovation of college students in Guangdong.
