Souce: JNU Office of International Exchange and Cooperation
The Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) has issued an official statement recognizing that JNU is introducing the Confucius Institute's Mandarin-teaching platform to the National University of Cordoba (NUC) in Argentina. The institute and JNU have signed an agreement supporting Jinan University's hosting the institute at NUC, its second one abroad. JNU has long been negotiating with its overseas partner to set up the institute. The president of NUC corresponded with the Hanban on March 18, requesting cooperation with JNU. In response, JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng and Vice President Zhang Hong, along with the delegations of negotiators, traveled to the headquarters in Beijing to report on the preparations.
On April 29, JNU Vice President Zhang Ronghua visited NUC with a JNU delegation for a symposium on how to build a characteristic and high-level Confucius Institute through the joint efforts of JNU and NUC.
Founded in 1622, National University of Cordoba, Argentina's second-largest city, was the first university in Argentina and is one of the oldest universities of higher learning in the Western Hemisphere. With 80,000 students at present, it offers programs in the social sciences, the humanities, medicine, basic science, technical science and other disciplines. It has cultivated many presidents, ministers, famous educators and artists for Argentina.
The Confucius Institute jointly built by JNU and Rhodes University in South Africa, officially unveiled on Oct. 23, 2008, was JNU's first Confucius Institute overseas.
