The 14th Cross-Strait (Guangdong and Taiwan) Higher Education Forum was held at JNU on May 24. Zhu Chaohua, deputy director of the Guangdong Education Department, and Huang Zhaofen, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, attended the opening ceremony. JNU President Song Xianzhong, and Vice President Zhang Hong spoke.
Yang Chaoxiang, president of Fo Guang University, and Ye Hongliang, a businessmen who is chairman of the Dongguan Yumiao Education Foundation, led a delegation of 51 experts and scholars from 23 universities in Taiwan attending the forum. Attending from Guangdong were Wei Zhonglin, president of the Guangdong Association of Higher Education; Tang Zhenmin, executive vice president of the Guangdong Association of Higher Education and dean of the Guangdong Academy of Education; and more than 260 representatives of 112 universities in Guangdong and Fujian.
The forum's theme was Contemporary Higher Education Development Strategy: Future, Opportunity and Challenge. At the opening ceremony, Zhu said the forum, now in its 13th year, would continue to promote cooperation in faculty training, talent cultivation and academic research, and would discuss cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence and reform of higher education models.
Song reviewed the exchanges and cooperation between universities and scientific research and cultural institutions in Taiwan since the reform and opening-up. He introduced the achievements of cooperation between Taiwanese universities and JNU on student exchanges and faculty training.

Over 30 representatives gave speeches on such topics as higher education reform in the age of intelligence; future patterns of reform and innovation in teaching models of higher education; principles and challenges of the evaluation of higher education; opportunities and challenges for the development of industrial colleges; and strategies and paths for innovative development of higher education exchange and cooperation across the strait.
During the forum, JNU also held the opening ceremony of exchanges and visits between students from Guangdong and Taiwan in a series of activities organized by the Guangdong Association of Higher Education, JNU, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangzhou University and Foshan University. More than 170 teachers and students from 25 universities in Taiwan and four in Guangdong attended. The leaders of the Guangdong Department of Education, the Guangdong Association of Higher Education and Guangdong's Taiwan Affairs Office met with students from Taiwan at the opening ceremony.
