JNU signed a deal with the People's Government of Tianhe District to jointly build a research institute of urban vitality for the new era. The two sides will remain committed to ushering new life into the historic city and establishing the relevant index system under the guiding principle of complementary advantages and win-win cooperation, with the common goal of making Tianhe District a spearhead in the Guangzhou development blueprint. The research institute, whose first dean is former JNU President Hu Jun, is part of JNU's Institute of Industrial Economics. Attending the ceremony were Chen Zhiying, standing committee member and executive vice mayor of Guangzhou Municipal Committee; Lin Daoping, secretary of Tianhe District Committee; Chen Jiameng, district chief of Tianhe District People's Government; JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng, and JNU President Song Xianzhong.

A highlight of the deal is the launch of comprehensive research by targeting issues and reality, taking the urban complex as the research object. The government, together with JNU, will set up a multidisciplinary and multi-departmental research center, a diversified government decision-making think tank and a school-based research institute as a way to take the lead in Tianhe District and provide better service to Guangzhou.

The cooperation between the Tianhe government and JNU will help both sides to integrate high-quality resources, innovate cooperation between university and government, establish a strategic cooperation relationship and jointly build a cooperation platform, Lin Daoping said.
Lin Rupeng said: Focusing on comprehensive urban function, comprehensive strength of urban culture, the modern service industry, the modern international business environment and other fields, JNU will actively integrate existing research resources, promote Guangzhou with fresh vitality and contribute to the high-quality development of Tianhe District through cooperation between different disciplines, colleges and universities and fields.”

The cooperation will realize complementary advantages and a win-win situation and jointly make Tianhe District better serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hu said.
