National and provincial scholarships were awarded to 536 JNU postgraduates at an awards ceremony on May 9. In attendance were JNU Vice President Zhang Hong; leaders of postgraduate schools and related departments; those in charge of postgraduate training units, and postgraduate counselors.
A total of 212 postgraduates won national scholarships, including 39 doctoral and 173 master's degree candidates; 230 postgraduates won Ministry of Education scholarships for students from Hong Kong and Macao; 62 postgraduates won Taiwan Student Scholarships; 16 international students won Chinese government scholarships; and 16 master's candidates won Guangdong provincial government scholarships for international students in Guangdong.
Zhang extended his warm congratulations to the recipients. He said postgraduate education at JNU would continue to focus on the fundamental task of cultivating talents and adhere to Jinan spirit to maintain JNU's reputation of the century-old overseas Chinese university, and provide a better educational environment. He also expressed hope that all graduate students could follow the recipients' example, contribute to society by participating in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and spread Chinese traditional culture to the world.

Zhang Yong, a postgraduate in the First Clinical Medical School's class of 2018, and Wang Yingwei, a postgraduate in the College of Life Science and Technology's class of 2016, spoke, respectively, on behalf of winners of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Overseas Chinese Scholarships and National Scholarships for Postgraduates. They expressed gratitude for the state funding policy, the careful cultivation of the school, and the understanding and concern of their families, teachers and friends. JNU students, they said, should study hard and gain sturdy knowledge for actively devoting themselves to the construction of society and China.
