The Second Belt and Road Initiative Forum for International Cooperation, the most important domestic diplomatic event in China this year, was held in Beijing from April 25 to 27. During the forum, CCTV-4, the international channel in Mandarin, broadcast an exclusive video segment (https://news.jnu.edu.cn/UploadFiles/2019/4/201904261059169383.mp4) on Anna Machneva, a Russian student at JNU, for the prime-time China News and one on colorful Cantonese culture on April 25.
Machneva, a finance major in the School of Economics' 2016 class, has lived in China for five years, becoming fluent in Chinese in just two. She learned calligraphy, Taijiquan, kung fu, and also participated in Huaxi dance and a Chinese cultural knowledge contest. “Chinese culture is really interesting!” she said.

At present, Machneva is participating in team research on the Belt and Road Initiative. She is mainly responsible for studying China's trade development in last four decades since reform and opening-up, and examining, from the perspective of economy, Belt and Road Initiative's achievements and shortcomings since its implementation.
Talking about future plans, Machneva said she would like to develop herself in China. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a master's degree for a further study and research in China.
Machneva is only one the 11,767 students from 123 different countries, as well as overseas Chinese from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who are studying at JNU.
Xie Meili, a graduate student in the Law School and Intellectual Property School, came to JNU from France four years ago. She hopes to become a professional legal consultant by mastering both French and Chinese law. With excellent grades, she has won the scholarship from Chinese government.

Russi Singh of the International School's 2015 class is an Indian student majoring in the clinical medicine in the international class for the degree of bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBBS). JNU is an excellent academic platform where Chinese teachers are always happy to answer our questions, Singh said. The medical level of JNU and the practice platform provided by affiliated hospitals are beneficial to my academic research.

China and India should strengthen cooperation in medicine. With complementary advantages in many areas and more cooperation, the two countries will make more progress.
Lin Yingcai, an overseas Chinese student from Laos, is not only an international politics major in the College of International Relations and the Overseas Chinese Institute, but also a founder of the JNU Laotian Students' Union. On the one hand, I hope Laos compatriots feel a sense of belonging at JNU, he said. On the other, I expect that the communication bridge between Laotian students and others will be built through the platform.

Su Xuerong of the College of Chinese Language and Culture, known as Myanmar's most beautiful Chinese teacher in mind and virtue, is fourth-generation Burmese Chinese. After learning Chinese by herself, she began to teach it. Now she is studying for a master's degree in Chinese international education at JNU, hoping to gain a deeper understanding of China's 5,000 years of history and culture.
I hope that Burmese Chinese learn the language of their ancestors, Su said. Besides, I wish to contribute to the Chinese education and culture by teaching Chinese.

Ciren Qiqige,a student in the College of Chinese Language and Culture,comes from Zamiin Uud, Mongolia, adjacent to Erenhot, Inner Mongolia. During her junior-year internship, she returned to Zamiin Uud and taught Chinese in a private school. “The experience of studying Chinese at JNU has enhanced my understanding of China, especially the traditional Chinese culture, which makes my class more interesting, lively, and more popular among students.”

As the first university to provide higher education to overseas Chinese, JNU attracts students from all over the world each year, including more than 300 students from Russia, Mongolia, India, Myanmar, Laos, and other countries along the Belt and Road. These students learn and grow at JNU, gradually falling in love with China, and becoming the envoy of cultural exchanges. They hope the continuous promotion of Belt and Road initiative would achieve greater development for themselves and their countries.
