The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Summit Seminar and the unveiling ceremony of the Institute of JNU's Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area were held on April 12 in the Alumni Building on JNU's main campus.

In attendance were Kang Ning, director of the Training/Publicity Center of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC); Wei Hongbo, NDRC's deputy director; JNU President Song Xianzhong and Vice President Hong An; Cai Juansi, deputy chairman of the Entrepreneurs Alliance of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; and nearly 200 representatives from the fields of production, studies and research. Hong hosted the ceremony and the symposium.
The university is committed to integrating superior resources, mobilizing and utilizing alumni at home and abroad through this joint research institute, Song said. Combined with existing research strength, the school will put more emphasis on National Risk Assessment of the Belt and Road Initiative; overseas Chinese and the community of a shared future for mankind; on industrial cooperation and space economy of the Greater Bay Area; the creation and protection of intellectual property rights; green development and environmental governance; and public opinion transmission and social governance. Based on the fields mentioned, the school will fully promote the research institute to take priority in building five featured brands, including a top research center, an integrated training center and a large-scale survey research center, to develop it into a first-class and high-end think tank.

Kang said the establishment of the research institute was a good start for cooperation between the NDRC training center and JNU. In the future, he said, the research institute will integrate the policy advantages of the training center with JNU's school-running experience and its teachers and alumni resources. It will carry out comprehensive cooperation in policy research, industry analysis, personnel training, social services, cultural transmission and innovation, international exchanges and cooperation, and other major national development strategies, such as the construction of the Greater Bay Area, poverty alleviation and innovation drive, he said.

Cai Juansi, executive director of the Sunwah Group, a highly diversified conglomerate, reviewed the Tokyo Promotion Meeting of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, co-sponsored by the governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Cai expressed hope that JNU's teachers and students could integrate their future with JNU's goals and China's development, and strengthen the study of countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Other speakers were Hu Jun, director of the institute; Wei Hongbo; Wang Fuqiang, industrial planning minister of the China Center for International Economic Exchange; and Chen Rixiang, deputy general manager of Guangdong branch of the China Export and Credit Insurance Corp.

At the symposium, five representatives of academia and industry spoke on the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of the Greater Bay Area.
