JNU's Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR) will cooperate with the Brookings Institution, one of the most influential U.S. think tanks, to hold an annual forum on Chinese micro-economic policies starting in October to conduct communication and cooperation among think tanks in applied microeconomics. Outstanding scholars will convene to undertake in-depth discussion, laying a foundation and provide references for policy recommendations on economic and social development. The first forum will be held at JNU on Oct. 11 and12.
In the last three three years, IESR has made great progress in setting up its own think tank, the Policy Research Center. Established in 2017, the center is committed to carrying out in-depth, evidence-based research focusing on both domestic and international topics. Its major concerns span social issues ranging from employment, migrant workers and their children's education, and left-behind-children to housing policy, industry policy and rural revitalization strategy. The center increases understanding of policy reports on the basis of micro-data and holds regular seminars on policy decisions. In addition, it has partnered with related policy-making organs in Guangdong and beyond, and collaborated with many world-renowned think tanks. IESR became a core think tank in 2017, one of the 16 Project 211 universities' class A think tanks on economy. This year, the center ranks among China's top 10 influential social think tanks, according to the think tank research center of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
