The Senate of the 2018 National Social Science Fund major project, A Study on Overseas Dissemination Map and Function of Chinese Folk Beliefs, was held in JNU's Second Social Sciences Building on April 10.
On behalf of the project's research group, Shi Cangjin, chief expert on major projects and researcher in the Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies, reported the project's overall design concept. Representing the four sub-projects, professors Zhao Zile of the Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies, Chen Caijun of the College of Liberal Arts, Zheng Yisheng of of Guangxi University for Nationalities and Huang Jianxing of Fujian Normal University, explained each one's design.
After seriously evaluating this major project, the panel affirmed its significant research value and made suggestions on the project's research methods, theories, forms of achievements and social impact. Its findings:
•It is essential to choose representative regions, countries and beliefs for this project, highlighting their features.
•It is important to learn the various beliefs of nationals in different areas and states, as well as characteristics of different communicative groups, which could help find similarities and differences between them.
•It is vital to focus on diversification of form in research achievements, which involve not only works, papers and research reports, but also visual images that the words have difficulty expressing.
•Hán Nôm and Japanese should be included in the collection of relative literature.
•It is significant to pay attention to improving and making breakthroughs in research theory. That is, it should not be restrained by current theoretical framework, but should struggle to establish theoretical systems applying to characteristics of overseas Chinese folk beliefs.
JNU intends to build communication and integration among the four subtopics.
