Prof. Zhu Yikun, dean of JNU's Law School and Intellectual Property School and vice chairman of the Guangdong Province Law Society, was appointed director of the China Law Society at the eighth National Congress of the Chinese Law Society in Beijing on March 19.

The congress stressed the importance of adherence to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism With Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and principles of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It also reported on the work of the China Law Society in the last five years and drew a road map for the next five. In addition, the congress elected a new Council of the China Law Society and a fresh group of leaders, including Wang Chen，a member of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau and vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, as its president.
The China Law Society was established on the foundation of the New Law Institution, the New Political Law Institution and the China Policy and Law Society. The New Law Institution was established by Dong Biwu, Lin Boqu and more than 90 others in June 1949 and had nearly 2,000 members; Premier Zhou Enlai was one of the first group of participants. In November 1951, the New Law Institution and the New Political Law Institution merged into the China Policy and Law Society. In April 1953, the society was officially and constitutionally established, and Dong Biwu was elected chairman. In July 1982, the China Policy and Law Society was reinstated and renamed the China Law Society, and it held its first National Congress, held every five years and representing society's supreme authority.
