The appointment ceremony for Prof. Chen Guying as a distinguished professor of JNU was held in the administration building on March 10. Cheng Guofu, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, held the ceremony, and JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng delivered the appointment speech and awarded Chen the letter of appointment. Leaders of the College of Liberal Arts and the Law School also attended, along with almost 100 students.

An expert on Taoist culture, Chen visited the JNU History Museum and was invited to give two lectures on traditional Chinese culture. Chen, who formerly taught at National Taiwan University, is currently a professor in the Taoist research center of Peking University and chief editor of Studies of Taoist Culture. His book Notes and Comments on Lao Tzu and Modern Notes and Translation on Zhuang Tzu have been available for over 40 years, published all over the world in more than 20 languages.

Chen recalled his childhood as well as his experience studying in Taiwan, and then described his pursuit of the true meaning of Lao-Zhuang thought and his spirit of solid study. As he walked through the History Museum, he said he felt as though he were going through a history of modern China.
The addition of Chen to the College of Liberal Arts will promote the development of the philosophy discipline and further complement humanities research at JNU. The College of Liberal Arts will adhere to the philosophy discipline's construction requirement of high standards and high starting point and work to establish master's and doctoral programs in a first-tier discipline of philosophy in JNU's supportive environment to introduce philosophy talents and add research funds.
