Wang Yi and Chen Xiaolei, business English students in JNU's College of Foreign Studies, took part in the 2018 FLTRP ·Etic Cup National English Public Speaking Contest and Writing Contest on Nov. 10. After fierce competition, Wang’s fluent oral English, distinctive viewpoints and stable performance won first prize in the speaking contest, and Chen won second prize in writing.
The intermediary contest, hosted by the Guangdong Department of Education, attracted 495 contestants: 116 in public speaking, 190 in writing and 189 in reading. They came from 54 universities, including JNU, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and South China University of Technology. The business English practice competition, organized by the South China Business College at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, was held on Nov. 7.
The English Contest for College Students is one of China's most important professional competitions in English. It was organized by Associate Prof. Lan Jing of JNU’s School of Foreign Studies. The speech contest is under the guidance of Associate Prof. Ma Yun, and the writing contest is under the guidance of lecturer Ren Xiuling.

The annual competition is sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, the Ministry of Education's Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee, the ministry’s Foreign Language Teaching Guidance Committee for Colleges and Universities, and the National Research Center for Foreign Language Education.
