The appointment ceremony of the honorary dean of JNU's School of Stomatology was held on Dec. 7 in the Alumni Building. President Song Xianzhong awarded a letter of appointment and a JNU badge to Zhang Zhiyuan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Vice President Ye Wencai announced the appointment, and Xu Anding, acting dean of the School of Stomatology, chaired the ceremony.

Song said the development of majors in the School of Stomatology had achieved good momentum and achieved fruitful results in teaching, scientific research, discipline construction and other aspects.

Song also said that, Zhang is a leading authority in the field of stomatology, so his joining will open a new chapter in the development of stomatology at JNU and play an important role in talent cultivation, discipline construction, academic research and team-building.

Afterwards, Zhang gives an academic lecture titled Driving Innovation Is the Soul of Medical Development. He also interacted with the audience on how to become an expert on stomatology.
Zhang is academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; an academic leader of national key disciplines; a professor, chief physician and doctoral supervisor; vice president of the Chinese Stomatological Association; executive director of the China Anti-Cancer Association, and the chairman of its Special Committee on Head and Neck Cancer. He is also the director of the China branch of the International Association for Dental Research and the fellowship of the International College of Dentists, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Dentistry.

Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine's Prof. Fang Bing was also awarded an appointment letter and badge.
