As the first professional film academy in Southeastern China, the Zhujiang Film Academy of Jinan University has announced its preparatory establishment. Jinan University, the China Film Association, the Guangzhou Municipal Government Information Office, the Zhujiang Film Group and the Bona Film Group have all signed the academy's Framework Agreement.
Zhu Xiaoyi, deputy minister of Guangzhou Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, said that in the history of Chinese film, Southern-style films have taken an important historical position, and in the future, Southern-style films with Chinese style, Lingnan style – that is, Cantonese style in language, architecture, visual arts, food culture, etc. -- and Great Bay Area characteristics will be more vibrant.
Zhang Hong, secretary of the China Film Association, said he hoped the academy would bring more good works and excellent cinematic talents to the Lingnan area.
JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng said the university, together with the other units, would build the academy into a high-end think tank, a talent pool, and the film center of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Great Bay Area to spread Chinese culture far and wide.
Wang Chuilin, chairman of the Zhujiang Film Group, maintained that it was an opportune time to hold a Movie Night of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. I hope we seize this timely opportunity so that more filmmakers from Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong Province can conduct more extensive and in-depth cooperation, he added.
Movie Night was organized by the China Film Association and the Publicity Department of the CPC’s Guangzhou Municipal Committee, and co-organized by JNU, the Zhujiang Film Group, the Bona Film Group, the Guangdong Film Association and the Guangdong Motion Picture Industry Association. Hundreds of filmmakers gathered to discuss new directions in the integration and development of film industry in Greater Bay Area.
After establishing the Zhujiang Film Academy of JNU, it's unnecessary for us to seek cooperation with the Beijing Film Academy or the Shanghai Theater Academy, said Wen Jun, a Hong Kong filmmaker, during a roundtable discussion. It will be easier to find young actors speaking Cantonese and knowing Lingnan culture in Guangzhou.
Xu Dongsheng, co-founder of We Capital, responded, I hope that the Zhujiang Film Academy can cultivate artists and entrepreneurs for the future film industry.
Nearly 300 people, including members of the China Film Association and the organizing committee of the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, renowned filmmakers, experts on the film industry, industry members in Greater Bay Area and college students majoring in film and television, attended.
