Shanghai Ranking, an institution that presents the Academic Ranking of World Universities, officially released China's Best Disciplines Ranking 2018 on Nov. 1st. Jinan University's 39 first-level disciplines were on the list, and the university ranked 22nd nationwide.

The list included the top 50 percent of universities in each discipline, with 4,999 disciplines at 460 universities, including 93 first-level disciplines.

JNU's journalism and communication discipline ranked in the top 5%. Such disciplines as Chinese material medical, political science, Chinese language and literature, applied economics and business administration ranked in the top 5 to 10%. Sixteen disciplines ranked in the top 10 to 25%, including cyber security; optoelectronic science information and engineering; integrated Chinese and Western medicine; pharmacy; food science and engineering; history; statistics; ecology; public administration; environmental engineering; theoretical economics; biology; English language and literature; management science and engineering; law; computer science, and technology
The rankings of 20 JNU disciplines have improved over 2017; six subjects, among them theoretical economics, went up by over 10 points.
