JNU students fared well in the Guangdong semifinals of the 2018 FLTRP·ETIC Cup English Public Speaking Contest at Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University on Nov. 11.
In the reading contest, Liang Huayu and Han Yue ranked third and fourth in Guandgdong, respectively winning the special prize and the first prize. Hu Yinuo won first prize and Wu Zhiying second prize. In the writing contest, Liang won first prize; Chen Xiaolei, Lin Qiaotong and Hu won second prize. In the speaking contest, two students qualified for the Guangdong finals; Wang Zhongwei and Wang Yi won first prize, Ye Liuyi third prize.

In early December, Liang will attend the national finals in Beijing with his instructor Wang Fang. He Xiaowen, Pan Xintong, Wang Zhongwei and Zhu Xiaomin performed well in the online competition of the national speech contest and were shortlisted in the national semifinals.
The FLTRP Cup national English contest is co-hosted by the Advisory Board on College Foreign Language Teaching under the Ministry of Education, the English Language Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press.
It is the largest-scale and the highest-level English competition in China with the most participants. It is an important platform for demonstrating the English level of contemporary college students, innovative thinking and cross-cultural communication ability, and for testing the cultivation level of English talents at colleges and universities.
