JNU's Lantern Festival kicked off on the Jianyang basketball court on the evening of Oct. 27. There were not only booths for special activities and traditional foods designed by various colleges, but also a small stage on which many performances were presented, including traditional Chinese instrumental music like the famous song Liangliang and an eloquent recitation of The Ballad of Mulan. In addition, the wishing tree and lantern gallery become romantic scenes.

A first-year postgraduate student in Chinese language and literature named Li was excited after hanging up her wishing bamboo stick. I wish that I can be healthy, make progresses and find a boyfriend, she said. I have loved traditional culture since I was a child because it can endow people with distinctive temperament. I was excited immediately when I observed the activity and really enjoyed it.

Activities included guessing lantern riddles, painting fans, throwing sandbags and making sugar men. Although the festival is over, the joy and beauty of traditional culture will never fade.
