Xi Jinping, president of the People's Republic of China, traveled to JNU on Oct. 24, visiting an exhibition on JNU’s history and education achievements, and looking over the documentary collections and material objects of JNU's Overseas Chinese Literature Museum. Afterward, he met with students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese students.
President Xi pointed out that the more than 50 million overseas Chinese in China are a unique advantage for the country's development, contributing to its reform and opening-up.
He said he hoped JNU could earnestly implement the spirit of the 2018 National Education Conference, adhere to its own school-running characteristics, run the school better, and create better conditions for overseas Chinese to study and inherit Chinese culture.
In the Overseas Chinese Literature Museum, Xi examined the collection of literary resources and talked with JNU students, asking about their study life and plans after graduation.
Having heard that many of them had come from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and overseas, Xi encouraged them to study hard so they can contribute their talents to society and spread traditional Chinese culture all over the world.
