When China's Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission released the 2018 Cyberspace Security Scholarship results in August, three JNU doctoral students in cyberspace security discipline were listed: Zhang Yue, Li Ming and Zhang Xiaoqian. Having made outstanding scientific research achievements and won national competitions, they stood out among the numerous applicants to become three of the 73 award-winning graduate students in China, winning 50,000 yuan each. JNU is also the only university or research institution in South China that has won the award.
Under the guidance of China's Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, this award was established as a special scholarship by the China Internet Development Foundation's special fund for network security to accelerate cultivation of cyberspace security talents and encourage outstanding students in the field. Students with high-level scientific research and innovation ability in cyberspace security are selected for the awards. The scholarship is China's highest award in the cyberspace security discipline at the national level for undergraduate, master's and doctoral students.
JNU establish South China's first college of cyber security in 2015. Its doctoral program in the cyberspace security was approved as a first-level discipline and a key discipline of Guangdong in 2018.
