The opening ceremony of the 15th Guangzhou College Student Film Festival was held at JNU on Sept. 28. The festival's theme is Watching Films to Delight Youth, adhering to the principle of films organized, watched, shot and assessed by college students. The festival presented a new trophy, the Green Spike Award. (The green spike is a symbol of college students' potential and aspirations.) It also adopted an innovative method of grading: netizens and film associations from numerous colleges voted on various awards most popular among college students. In attendance were film artists, experts, directors, stars, media and college students from all over the country.
Li Xianhua, full-time chairman of the Guangdong Federation of Literary and Art Circles; Ren Tianhua, deputy director of the Guangzhou Administration of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, Press and Publication; and JNU Vice President Rao Min spoke at the opening ceremony to praise and support the promotion of the festival. Zhou Jun, executive chairman of executive committee of the festival's organizing committee, and JNU student Sun Yandong also spoke.
He Xiaotian, deputy secretary-general of the festival's organizing committee this year and CEO of Spread Smoothly Media, recommended Project Gutenberg, the opening film, released on the National Day after the opening ceremony. The film, directed by Zhuang Wenqiang and supervised by Huang Bin, stars Chow Yun Fat and Aaron Kwok. Zhuang and his team, including Liao Qizhi and Fen Wenjuan, cast members in the film, attended the opening ceremony to interact with students and share their experiences in the film industry.
