The eighth International Youth Scientists Forum of Nanotechnology and New Energy Technology, an activity of the 2018 Lingnan Science Forum, was held in JNU's Alumni Building from Sept. 26 to 28. Over 60 distinguished experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore, the United States and other countries discussed progress in nanotechnology and new energy technologies, and the scientific problems waiting to be solved.
Mai Wenjie, dean of the College of Science and Engineering, hosted the forum. Prof. Zhang Lei of South China University of Technology and Prof. Li Gaoren of Sun Yat-sen University served as co-hosts. Honorary chairmen were Shen Guozhen, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Prof Fan Hongjin of Nanyang Technological University; and Prof. Fan Zhiyong of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

More than 30 talents, including Prof. Zhang Qiang of Tsinghua University and Prof. Mai Yaohua of Jinan University, gave 40 oral reports covering current issues in nanomaterials, new-energy materials and devices, photovoltaic materials and devices, electrochemical energy-storage materials, and carbon-based energy materials.

Aiming to provide platforms for young scholars to exchange ideas and the latest results in the field of nano- and new energy technology, this forum has been held seven times since 2011, enjoying a good reputation among young scholars in China and abroad. This was the first time the forum was held in Guangzhou.
