The latest Tilburg University Economics Ranking placed JNU seventh in China, tied with the University of International Business and Economics, and 19th in Asia for the number of papers published in 35 authoritative international economic journals in 2017.
Contributing to that ranking was JNU’s Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR). To date, full-time teachers in the research institute have published over 40 papers in international academic journals, of which 11 have been published or accepted in the 35 international authoritative journals of Tilburg ranking.
JNU established the IESR in December 2015 to internationalize education and research in economics. In three years, the institute has introduced 39 full-time teachers, 90% of whom graduated from famous universities overseas. The institute devotes itself to creating an international academic platform and striving for academic research up to international standards. In January, its program Discipline Innovation and Introduction Base of Population Flow and Labor Economy was selected for the 111 plan jointly implemented by China's Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, becoming the first talent introduction base of the 111 plan for humanities and social sciences at JNU. In June, based on the 111 plan, the research institute co-established the Chicago- JNU Joint Initiative on the Study of Human Development with the University of Chicago’s Center for the Economics of Human Development, further accelerating internationalization.
With the acceleration of internationalization, JNU has steadily strengthened its scientific research in economics, and it continues to strive toward the goal of making its economics discipline first-class internationally and the top one in China.
