Andrew Cooper, a fellow of the Royal Society, a professor in the Department of Chemistry and director of the Materials Innovation Factory at the University of Liverpool, was officially named a JNU honorary professor on Aug. 14.
At the conferring ceremony, Li Dan, dean of the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, introduced Cooper. Li said, Professor Cooper as a well-known chemist and materials scientist, who has been named as one of the top 100 materials scientists in the world. After much discussion, Li and Cooper decided on long-term cooperation in scientific research about new materials discovery, synthesis, application, etc., and joint training of graduates and postdoctoral students.

They subsequently signed an agreement on behalf of their universities. JNU's College of Chemistry and Materials will work with Liverpool's Materials Innovation Factory on basic research, technological innovation, talent development, and collaborative research on molecular engineering and advanced materials.

After the appointment ceremony, Cooper gave an academic lecture titled Functional Materials Design Driven by Computation and Robotics, on computer simulation and prediction of new materials, laboratory robot synthesis and characterization, and high-throughput materials. He answered questions on synthesis and screening.
