The finals of the 17th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students and the CCB Cup • Chinese Bridge Chinese Contest in South Africa were held in Nelson Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape Province, on May 26. A student with her Chinese name Xiaoxiao from the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University, won the first prize for her outstanding speech and performance of the Kang-Ding Love Song. She and Wei'an, another first-prize winner from the Confucius Institute at University of Johannesburg, will represent South Africa at the 17th Chinese Bridge Finals to be held in China.

Participating in the competition were 21 students from five Confucius Institutes in South Africa and one Confucius Classroom. The competition included Q&A, a keynote speech and a talent show.

The South Africa finals, with the theme of “One World, One Family,” was hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban); organized by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University; and assisted by the China Construction Bank’s Johannesburg branch and the Nelson Mandela Bay Chinese Community Policing Co-Operative Center.
