Six professors from Jinan University have made the list of scholars in 2017 Chang Jiang Scholars Program announced by the Ministry of Education. Prof. Ding Ke of the College of Pharmacy is listed as a Distinguished Professor of Chang Jiang Scholars. The other five scholars, listed as Young Scholars, are Prof. Gao Hao and Prof. Cai Qian of the College of Pharmacy; Prof. Ju Hailong of the School of International Studies and the Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies; Prof. Li Yunfei of the College of Arts; and Prof. Liu Tao of the School of Journalism and Communication. In the number of scholars on the list, JNU ranks 20th nationwide and the second in Guangdong Province.
The Chang Jiang Scholars Program, a special high-level talent project jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Li Ka Shing Foundation, was initiated in 1998. It has become an important part of the national major projects for talent development. The program makes grants to distinguished professors, chair professors and young scholars. Distinguished professors will receive 1 million RMB from the nation's central budget within five years; young scholars will receive 300,000 within three years; and chair professors will receive 30,000 a month.
