A delegation headed by Phillip Gilmartin, vice president of the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the United Kingdom, visited Jinan University on May 30 to discuss joint education programs for doctoral students. President Song Xianzhong met with the delegation, which included leaders from UEA's International Office, School of Economics and School of Health Sciences.
As exchange visits have become more and more frequent in recent years, Song said, joint education programs feature prominently in JNU, and special coordination meetings are held to push them forward. He said he hoped this visit could help work out the details and accelerate the implementation of the programs.
Gilmartin said the programs help establish a system of global talents cultivation and promote scientific and technological cooperation, as well as discipline development on both sides. He said he also hoped this visit would deepen understanding of JNU and enlarge cooperation on talent cultivation in a range of fields, including environmental science, biological science and economics management.
Leaders from UEA's School of Economics and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences communicated with their counterparts at JNU, including those from the College of Economics and the nursing department of the Faculty of Medicine Science. Representatives of the universities' international affairs offices achieved preliminary consensus on an undergraduate exchange and summer programs.
