The 2018 Visiting Program for Young Sinologists (Guangzhou) opened at Jinan University on May 12. The program was hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, coordinated by the China International Exchange Center, and co-organized by the Guangdong Department of Culture and JNU.
Attending were 31 outstanding young Sinologists from 25 countries, including the United Kingdom, Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, India and Brazil. Through academic seminars and on-the-spot research, they are conducting 21 days of study on the theme of China opening up, Guangdong leading the tide. They are focusing on Chinese Lingnan culture (Lingnan refers to Guangdong and nearby provinces in southeastern China), the Maritime Silk Road and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The seminar invited famous Guangdong specialists to teach courses including Traditional Chinese Culture and Modern China, Recent Achievements in China and Development Plans in the New Era, The Current Situation and Future of Cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Chinese Lingnan Culture and the Belt and Road Initiative. The seminar also organized lectures and courses on Chinese history, culture and art; changes in Chinese society; the Chinese economy and international politics, and the relationship between Chinese and Western culture.
The scholars are visiting places that embody Guangdong's economic and social achievements, and museums representing Lingnan history and culture. This on-site research also includes industrial and legal development, ecological construction and technological development. After the seminar, the results will be compiled and published.
