The dance piece Xiguanxiu by theJNU student art troupe and the calligraphy Xidu Ode by Sheng Kai, a member of the 2014 fine arts class in the College of Arts, won first prizesin the 5th National College Students' Art Performance Activities. The events, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, concluded at the Shanghai International Dance Center on April 21.
The dance Xiguanxiu, deeply rooted in traditional Cantonese culture, not only demonstrated the unique style and features of Guangdong college students, but also showed the heritage and development of culture of South China. It added the energy and vitality of the new era to traditional Cantonese culture.
Sheng Kai's Xidu Ode, with delicate stroke style, adopted not the general vertical writing format but horizontal format, like a hand scroll. Sheng's work has been included among representative Guangdong artworks that will be printed on postcards and issued by China Post.

The opening ceremony of the College Students Art Exhibition was held at the Shanghai Grand Theatre on April 16. Among students and professors from over 400 universities across the country, students from JNU performed at the ceremony, on behalf of Guangdong Province, and videos of the ceremony were shown on CCTV News.
