Shanike Dissanayake, Sri Lanka's consul general in Guangzhou, visited JNU on April 13, meeting with Vice President Zhang Hong.
Zhang briefed her on JNU’s latest development situation and its cooperation and communication with Sri Lanka. He said JNU would strive to construct a world-class university and disciplines. He reported that, in a new chapter of academic exchange with Sri Lanka, JNU had signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Colombo, ranked No.1 in the country. He expressed hope that Dissanayake could promote cooperation between JNU and universities in Sri Lanka and enhance communication on culture and education between China and Sri Lanka.
Dissanayake had a deep understanding of JNU disciplines development and the status of students from Sri Lanka. She expressed her gratitude that JNU provided scholarships for students from Sri Lanka and offered rare opportunities for them to study at JNU. She also made some suggestions on future cooperation in higher education between JNU and Sri Lanka and said she hoped to contribute to cooperation between JNU and the University of Peradeniya, another top university in Sri Lanka.
