JNU's Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR) and Institute for Environmental and Climate Research (ECI) jointly held an interdisciplinary exchange meeting on the environment and the economy on April 11. Its aims were to enhance exchange and cooperation among JNU scholars in the field and to promote joint innovation in interdisciplinary fields. Focusing on major issues such as air pollution and climate change, IESR and ECI scholars discussed research topics, trends and methods in their own fields. Over 10 scholars attended, including ECI Dean Shao Min, Honorary Dean and Academician Liu Shaochen, Executive Deputy Dean Wang Boguang and Deputy Dean Wang Xuemei.

Prof. Feng Shuaizhang, dean of IESR, noted that ECI has achieved great results since its establishment in 2016. Today, economic development and environmental protection are inseparable in continuing green development. Therefore, IESR hopes to take this exchange meeting as an opportunity to increase academic cooperation with ECI and jointly find a solution to the contradiction between economic development and environmental protection, providing constructive advice for policymaking.

Shao said air pollution and climate change are two major problems of economic development. He said he had high hopes for the cooperation between IESR and ECI, since this cooperation has favorable advantages. Shao also gave a brief introduction of ECI from the aspects of research group, direction and plan.
